ENS and ESI
All puppies are handled from birth and receive Early Neurological Stimulation and Early Scent Introduction to ensure that the puppy has the best chances if being used for hunting, working, service, etc.
ENS (Early Neurological Stimulation) is a series of exercises done on days 3 through 16 of puppyhood that jump starts the puppies nervous system. Research has shown that puppies that have received ENS have improved performance later in life in terms of workability. Other benefits of ENS include improved cardio-vascular performance (heart rate); stronger heart beats; stronger adrenal glands; more tolerance to stress; and greater resistance to disease. In tests of learning, ENS stimulated pups were more active and exploratory than their non- stimulated littermates. You can find more information about ENS through the AKC website.
ESI (Early Scent Introduction) similarly is an exercise completed day 3-16 that enhances a dogs potential in scent related tasks/jobs/events. "Compared to the non-ESI cohorts, pups that had Early Scent Introduction had more scent accomplishments and more of those accomplishments are in the higher complexity events, and they’re achieving these much younger" (Avidog)
